I took this image at the Chicago Botanic Garden. Each flower lasts just 48 hours, on the first night the white (female) opens luring its pollinator (a beetle) with its heady, tuberose scent. After closing for the day, the flower reopens pink and now is a male. On the second night it releases the pollen-coated beetle before submerging to form seeds. Truly unique and rare.

Get a load of those stickers!!! I never realized that there was so many on the bottom of a lily pad until I picked up the edge of one and looked under. Rank right long with a cactus for being hazardous. Interesting photo--interesting description. Would love to see what the bloom looks like. Thanks for sharing.
